Fund Raisers - an Example

Deborah Sampson (2004) with special base

There have been many pieces in the history of Sebastian Miniaturesâ that have been linked with fund raising.  Most of these fund raising projects have been tied to a piece that was specifically designed for the organization purchasing the artwork.  The minimum order quantity required for such a project has fluctuated over the years, starting off at a quantity of 2500 pieces and ending up at around 150 to 250 pieces.  Any quantity much smaller would not justify the commission of a special piece.  However recently a new way of accommodating smaller needs has been worked out.

The Sharon Historical Society decided it wanted to raise some additional funds for its organization.  Instead of commissioning a unique piece for their needs, they decided to have a special base made for a piece that was already in the line.  The cost to create the special base and the tooling to make the base was minimal.  As a result the Sharon Historical Society was able to have a unique piece for the cost of a custom base as well as the cost of mounting an existing piece on the new base.  The Sharon Historical Society decided to offer the piece as a limited edition of 100 pieces and set the price for the piece so that they would make $50.00 on the sale of each piece.  Although this was a larger than normal mark-up on the piece, the folks purchasing the piece realized that in fact they were making a donation to the Sharon Historical Society and for the donation they were receiving a Sebastian Miniatureâ.  Should this piece sell out the Sharon Historical Society would clear close to $5000.00.

With the vast number of pieces that are available in the Sebastian line there are many opportunities for small organizations to commission a fundraiser unique to their needs and with no obligation to take the whole edition of 100 pieces.  For instance libraries could mount the Bibliophile on a custom base and use it to raise funds for a special project.  Small theater groups could use one of the Shakespearian characters for their fund raising needs while other historic societies could use one of the many historical characters in the line.
