GENERAL INFORMATION. Following the success with Baston's Chiquita Banana promotion, the New York advertising agency of Young & Rubicam planned an advertising program for General Foods' Jell-O brand that involved a series of 13 Sebastians over the next five years (1952-1956). When Jell-O ran an ad showing a Scottish girl studying her budget, the headline said, "Now's the Time for Jell-O." Before the ad appeared nationally, Jell-O sent Sebastians to its top 3,000 national accounts reminding them "...when you see this lass in your magazines and newspapers, remember how Jell-O is helping you sell. Stock up now!" This was followed a few months later with "Lost in the Kitchen," "The Fat Man," etc., all warning that "Now's the Time for Jell-O."
Baston worked continuously with Young & Rubicam and General Foods in their old New York City Postum Building office until the series was completed. The Reader's Digest office was also located there. From Dr. Glenn Johnson's book, The Sebastian Miniature Collection.
