GENERAL INFORMATION. In 1958, Baston proposed a project to the Essex County National Bank in Peabody, Massachusetts (now the Essex Bank).  The idea was for a pen stand with an oval recess into which a series of seven miniatures of various couples could be exchanged.  Baston changed his 1947 Pilgrims (SML-72) to a more ornate base and retitled it Thanksgiving Couple.  He transferred his H. H. Stearns (Godey) couple (SML-89) to the ornate Victorian Couple base.  He presented these two, along with five new joined pairs, to the bank.  When the bank decided against the promotion, all the pairs were placed in the retail line and were steady sellers for many years.
With the Williamsburg Couple, Baston combined his 1939 Williamsburg Governor and Lady pair (SML-7 and SML-8), Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley (SML-384) and Coronado and Senora (SML-383)
