GENERAL INFORMATION. The Second World War was over and the United Nations had held its first meeting in San Francisco, California on October 24, 1945. President Harry Truman was the keynote speaker at this landmark event. Later, the UN moved its headquarters to its present building in New York City. Children representing four nationalities are depicted holding hands as a commemoration of the formation of this organization and its goal of world peace.
