GENERAL INFORMATION. In 1973, Baston designed a Bicentennial commemorative plate that was cast into Hudson pewter. The center depicted a bas relief sculpture of the Spirit of '76 and five scenes on the rim depict (left to right) Paul Revere's ride, the Lexington Minuteman, the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the encampment at Valley Forge and Washington crossing the Delaware. The plate reverse bears an incredibly detailed microminiature casting of the Declaration of Independence including all signatories.
The plate was issued as an unlimited edition and, during its four-year life, was subscribed at 18,500 plates before it was discontinued forever on July 5, 1976.From Dr. Glenn Johnson's book, The Sebastian Miniature Collection.
