GENERAL INFORMATION. Following the highly successful "American Independence" plate (PP-7), Hudson planned an annual continuation of limited edition plates. The 1977 issue, "American Expansion," depicted six events occurring between the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. The center has a group of Forty-niners panning for gold in California and the rim depicts (left to right) a Yankee Clipper, Conestoga wagon, the signing of the Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark and the Alamo. The back bears the names of the 34 states admitted to the Union before the Civil War.
The plate was discontinued forever on December 31, 1978.From Dr. Glenn Johnson's book, The Sebastian Miniature Collection.
