GENERAL INFORMATION. Francisco Vasquez de Coronado (1510-1554), Spanish explorer, reached New Mexico in 1540. From there he journeyed in the Texas panhandle, Oklahoma and Kansas. In 1554, Coronado was dismissed from his governorship of Nueva Galicia in Mexico and lived the rest of his life in obscurity in Mexico City.
In 1953, in response for a Miles Standish to accompany John Alden and Priscilla (SML-5 & SML-6), Baston inscribed Standish in Coronado's base and outsold the "new" design "five to one" until both were discontinued in 1958. In 1980, Baston mounted the man and woman on one base and introduced them as "Coronado and Senora" (SML-383).From Dr. Glenn Johnson's book, The Sebastian Miniature Collection.
