GENERAL INFORMATION.  With his Shakers and Early Couples underway, the period 1941 through 1945 marked a five-year period of design experimentation. Later designs would continue history and Americana, plus Baston's literary figures.  In 1941, prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the U.S. entry into World War II, Carbone asked Baston to design a set of figurines depicting birds.
     "I was never at ease with the subject matter and nothing ever came of my designs.  These six were on the market briefly but thy had nothing to commend them.  They were like so many other European imports.  I made a few and then called it quits."    The doves and swan are not included in the photo above.
