GENERAL INFORMATION. Prescott Baston began his Dickens series with David Copperfield and his first wife, Dora.  Written in 1849 and 1950, David Copperfield emerged as Dickens' masterpiece.  David's marriage to Dora Spenlow, a rattlebrained, childlike woman is followed son after by her death.  David marries Agnes Wickfield at the end of the novel.
For no apparent reasons, Baston changed the title of the figurine from David to simply Copperfield when he removed the "Patent Pending" from the mold in 1953.  Then again for no reason he added Dora's first name in 1968.

Note: Baston designed a six-sided (hexagonal) base (SML-347) for his Dickens characters, locking them mechanically to a cottage background (SML-61) display. In 1946 he applied for a patent to protect this design motif and he cast the term "Patent Pending" into the base of each Dickens figurine.  In 1953 he was informed that the patent was denied.  All Dickens production form 1946 to 1953 bears the term "Patent Pending."
