GENERAL INFORMATION. From Charles Dickens' classic tale, A Christmas Carol. Bob Cratchit is Scrooge's underpaid clerk. Though Cratchit has to maintain nine dependents with his meager wages, his home, unlike his employer's, is filled with happiness and love. Tiny Tim, his little lame son, is a winsome and beloved child. In the ordinary course of events, he is doomed to an early death. But Scrooge, after his change of character, makes Tiny Tim his special charge.
Baston portrays the pair returning from church, Tim seated on his father's shoulder and Bob Cratchit decorated with "six foot of scarf exclusive of fringe."Note: Baston designed a six-sided (hexagonal) base (SML-347) for his Dickens characters, locking them mechanically to a cottage background (SML-61) display. In 1946 he applied for a patent to protect this design motif and he cast the term "Patent Pending" into the base of each Dickens figurine. In 1953 he was informed that the patent was denied. All Dickens production form 1946 to 1953 bears the term "Patent Pending."
