GENERAL INFORMATION
In the midst of his 1946 retail design work, Baston was approached by the president of the Puritan Candy Co. in neighboring Somerville, MA. The company wanted a small figurine of a Puritan woman at her spinning wheel, the company's trademark. Baston produced 300 pieces and never received another order. However, as with the first Shaker Glen House request eight years earlier, the Puritan Spinner showed him an entirely different market for his work than the retail business through Carbone. The Puritan Spinner is truly the forerunner of the Jell-O series, the Shawmut Indian, Reader's Digest and Saturday Evening Post series.
The Puritan Candy Co. no longer exists. From Dr. Glenn Johnson's book, The Sebastian Miniature Collection.
