GENERAL INFORMATION.  Baston had just begun work with distributor Schmidt Bros. and the first appearance of the line was scheduled for a department store in York, Pennsylvania, center of the Pennsylvania Dutch country.  He designed these pieces specifically for that appearance and they remained in the line for many years.
The Amish are one of the most conservative sects of the Mennonite Church.  Noted for their independence, the Amish preserve simplicity of dress and habits.
