GENERAL INFORMATION. Originally designed on speculation for the Toll House restaurant in Whitman, Massachusetts, the Pilgrims were sold at retail through Schmid Bros. from the beginning. The base was changed to a more ornate one in 1958 (on a speculative promotion with a bank to provide interchangeable couples in a bank-provided recessed pen stand), and the name was changed to Thanksgiving Couple. In 1968 the title was once again changed to its final title, Pilgrim Couple.
The pilgrim is portrayed carrying a turkey while his wife carries a basket of assorted vegetables. From Dr. Glenn Johnson's book, The Sebastian Miniature Collection.
