GENERAL INFORMATION  Prescott Baston designed Abraham Lincoln in 1947.  In 1958, after he had designed his Lincoln Memorial (SML-291), he replaced the head looking straight ahead with the new design, looking down.  He also increased the base size.
A paperweight/pen stand was provided on special order during the years 1958 to 1967.
From 1946 to 1953, Prescott Baston petitioned the Guggenheim Foundation for a great to design all the presidents of the United States for use in educating School children.  The grant was never awarded to him.  In 1947, Baston designed Washington, Lincoln and FDR to demonstrate his plan.  All three designs were issued in 1947 through Carbone, a Boston-based distributor.

From Dr. Glenn Johnson's book, The Sebastian Miniature Collection.

NOTE: Figure SML-85D is newly discovered and does not appear in the first printing of the Gold Book.  It appears that some of these figures may have also been produced for a Chicago distribution and are so identified.
