GENERAL INFORMATION.  A Philadelphia store owner saw Mr. & Mrs. Beacon Hill (SML-79-80) and wanted a pair "just as stuffy" for Philadelphia.  Mr. Rittenhouse Square wears a homburg and formal morning dress and illustrates his background besides containers filled with Scrapple.  Mrs. is museum-hopping and disdainfully gazing through her lorgnette at a bust of Benjamin Franklin.  The store never sold many and the pair was discontinued after a few years.
Mrs. Rittenhouse Square was reintroduced to retial sales in 1981 to raise funds for Philadelphia's Scheie Eye Institute.  The words "Scheie Eye Institute" are permanently cast into the base of the recent issue.
