GENERAL INFORMATION. The House of Seven Gables is both an historic Colonial house in Salem, Ma., and the backdrop for Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel (1851). Salem is a seaport adjacent to Baston's Marblehead and plays an important part in New England history.
Baston was a member of the Marblehead Rotary Club and attended makeup meetings in Salem. he designed a Salem Rotary symbol on the base and supplied them with 700 pieces over the years for fund-raising, gifts to visitors, etc.
In 1956, a Salem hardware store ordered 200 Houses with retractable measuring tapes built into them. From Dr. Glenn Johnson's book, The Sebastian Miniature Collection.
