GENERAL INFORMATION. The Jordan Marsh Co. in Boston had a figure in colonial dress painted on a billboard overlooking the construction site for their new store. The store advertising department has Baston design and produce a figurine depicting the character. The design was popular. Baston produced several hundred at a time until 1953, and the Observer became a trademark long after the construction was completed and the sidewalk superintendents had returned home.
In 1958, the figure, with lobster trap and ship's wheel, was used for two more promotions (SML-298). These designs were finally converted to the Colonial Observer in1972.From Dr. Glenn Johnson's book, The Sebastian Miniature Collection.
