GENERAL INFORMATION. Mary Lyon was the founder of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts.  School officials requested a Sebastian Miniature depicting Mary Lyon for their use in fund-raising activities.
Baston portrayed her lecturing before a group on the benefits of education for a young woman.  She has a green cloth bag, with which she always carried home the money.
