GENERAL INFORMATION. Eustace Tilley, Esq. is the trademark of the New Yorker magazine. He graces it front cover once a year. The magazines circulation department commissioned Baston to create a Eustace Tilley figurine. He captured the haughty gentleman peering through his pince-nez at a nonexistent butterfly. The magazine used 500 in 1949 for a promotion.
