GENERAL INFORMATION. Elizabeth Griscom Ross (1752-1836), Philadelphia, is known to have sewed American flags during the Revolution. The long accepted story that she designed and made the first American national flag (The Stars and Stripes) is now generally discredited.
Baston's design was at the explicit request of the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia. The Chippendale chair is a miniature replica of the chair in the house. From The Sebastian Miniature Collection by Dr. Glenn S. Johnson.
