GENERAL INFORMATION. In 1949 Baston began design of historical sea figures. Following research at the Peabody Museum in Salem, he designed Yankee Sea Captain (1949), Donald McKay and Tom Bowline (1950). The young captain is standing at the gangway of his clipper ship. He is supervising the stowing of cargo before his departure to China. He holds the captain's horn.
