GENERAL INFORMATION. Rip Van Winkle and Dame Van Winkle appear in Washington Irving's tale Rip Van Winkle (1819), collected in his Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. Henpecked Rip and his dog Wolf wander into the Catskill Mountains before teh Revolutionary War. They join a group of dwarfs and Rip drinks from a keg. He awakens 20 years later, an old man. He returns to find Dame Van WInckle dead and the portrait of King George replaced by one of George Washington.
The newly formed Sebastian Society reissued Rip in September, 1980, and Dame in March 1981, as members only figurines. Both were permanently retired in August, 1983.From The Sebastian Miniature Collection by Dr. Glenn S. Johnson.
