GENERAL INFORMATION. Washington Irving's first book A History of New York from the Beginning of the World to the End of the Dutch Dynasty (1809) is a satire, presented as the work of a fictional character called Diedrich Knickerbocker. Through the years, the quaint and humorous Dutchman ha become a familiar byword, particularly in New York.
Knickerbocker was later to decorate the Town Meeting plaque in 1971 and the Sebastian plaque in 1982 (SML-366)From The Sebastian Miniature Collection by Dr. Glenn S. Johnson.
