GENERAL INFORMATION. The R. H. Stearns department store was situated facing Boston Common, a large piece of land in downtown Boston originally used as a common feeding ground for the Colony's farmers and now a beautiful public park.  At Stearns' request, Baston designed a Swan Boat, the small touring boat that carries the young of all ages on the Boston Public Garden lagoon (across the street from Boston Common) during the summer months.
Baston was delighted when Woody, aged five, sat in the right front seat.  He modeled him wearing a captain's hat.  In 1961, Baston produced 250 pieces for the Masons bearing the inscription "Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts 1961."  The Grand Lodge used the figurines as awards.
