comments/observations SML-170A "Synthetic wood" version used a process & material called Repron to achieve a wood-like effect. Some figures were also painted in brown to enhance this effect.  I was used for a limited number of figurines during the mid-1960's.

GENERAL INFORMATION.  Baston created a series of three Madonnas from the great Madonna paintings of Raphael Sanzio (1483-1820).  The Chair Madonna was painted during Raphael's Roman period and now hangs in the Pitti Palace in Florence.
Baston cast a few hundred of this Madonna in a hard synthetic wood base and sold them locally.
