GENERAL INFORMATION. Baston first designed Franklin as one of his Favorite Americans series for his retail stores. A year after it was produced, Baston ws commissioned to create a special piece with a pen stand base inscribed "Compliments -Curtis Plan Representative."  It was used by Curtis salesmen (Saturday Evening Post and other magazines) to promote sales.
The Franklin and Post tie-in continued in 1955 with the Keystone Readers' Service figurine (reads "Ben Franklin Award - Keystone Readers' Service" in a heavy base), also used in Curtis promotions.
