GENERAL INFORMATION. The Putman Pantry Candy Company was run by direct descendants of General Israel Putnam (1718-1790) of Bunker Hill battle fame. They requested Baston do a version of their ancestor for company advertising and also for sale by the company. Baston portrayed the General leaning against the Bunker Hill monument and licking out the inside of a chocolate kettle. The highly specialized design was a slow seller and was discontinued in 1956.
