GENERAL INFORMATION. George Washington was the only U.S. president to be master of a Mason's lodge and President of the United States at the same time. At the request of several collectors, Baston designed the first president in his Masonic regalia, both as a figurine and a pen stand, for the retail line.
In 1963 he cast 1,500 pieces for the A.F. & A.M. in Marblehead, this time without a chair to keep production time and expenses down. Then, in response to another request, Baston cast 1,000 pieces with magnets in the base. Some Masons wanted to place the figurine on their car dashboard.
Sebastian discontinued the George Washington with cannon figurine (SML-84) in 1980. To get a more conservative Washington in the line, Baston removed the Masonic garb in 1982.From Dr. Glenn Johnson's book, The Sebastian Miniature Collection.
