GENERAL INFORMATION. This particular grist mill is the one at the Wayside Inn in Sudbury, Massachusetts made famous by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem. The mill today is actually a reproduction made in 1929 by Henry Ford, but is very close to the original mill that dated from 1744. Water power was extensively used for many tasks prior to the arrival of electricity. A water wheel turned heavy grinding wheels that in turn ground wheat into flour.
