GENERAL INFORMATION. A lobster "pound" is a building where lobsters are kept in salt water filled tanks and processed for shipment or sale. This miniature has a pier, walkway and lobster boat. Maine lobsters are considered by many to be the finest available anywhere. In Colonial times lobsters were considered a poor man's food and indenture contracts and other legal documents might limit the number of times per week that an individual would be fed lobster.
