GENERAL INFORMATION. Prior to the completion of the new Basketball Hall of Fame, this museum was housed in this building in Springfield, Massachusetts.  This figurine was commissioned to commemorate the transition from the old to new buildings.
The game of basketball was invented by James Naismith at the institution now called Springfield College to keep athletes in shape in the off season.  A peach basket was used as the first basketball hoop.
