GENERAL INFORMATION. The original Governor's Palace in Williamsburg was built 1706-1720. It is believed that Christopher Wren designed this structure. He was the official architect for the British Crown at that time. The Palace was destroyed by fire in 1788. John D. Rockefeller devoted himself and his resources to the reconstruction of historic Williamsburg with this building rebuilt to its original form.
