GENERAL INFORMATION. Balsam's Gifts, a chain of gift stores in Massachusetts, commissioned this piece (its third). The first two were the SS Spirit of Massachusetts (SML-434) and the U.S.S. Constitution (SML-456). The Yacht America was the successful defender of the prized American's Cup in races off Australia.
