GENERAL INFORMATION. This figurine commemorates the dedication of the new orthopedic hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts.  In this piece, a Shriner is carrying a young crippled child with crutches in front of the old and new hospital.  The old building is in relief in the background while the new one is in three dimensions on the front.
The Shriners currently spend (2000) about 1.2 million dollars per day maintaining orthopedic and burn hospitals around the United States.  there is never a charge for a child treated at any Shriner hospital. Massachusetts has two of these hospitals, one orthopedic and one for the treatment of burns.
