GENERAL INFORMATION. Commissioned by the Quincy (Massachusetts) Historical Society as a fund raising for the Society's centennial observance. Adams Academy is currently the home of the Society. The original steeple no longer exists but there are plans to restore it.
The Quincy Historical Society was founded in 1893 and has been active in the preservation of Quincy's heritage for nearly one hundred years. The Society is located in the Adams Academy Building, a gothic revival structure originally built in 1872 as a boys' school established by President John Adams. The Academy building is located directly upon the site of the birthplace of one of Quincy's most famous sons, John Hancock. The Academy today houses permanent and changing exhibits, a research library, and is open throughout the year.
