The Sebastian Exchange
Adapted from the Sebastian Exchange Value Register.  Used with permission.

The birth of the Sebastian Exchange occurred in November 1981 when Jean and Paul Sebastian of Lancaster, PA met woody Baston at Design Galleries in Wilkes Barre, PA. Unable to convince Woody to expand the Sebastian Miniatures Collectors Society News (see information directly above) to include news about auctions and finds of old Sebastian Miniatures and to publish current market values, the Sebastians returned home believing that it was their mission to bring this task to reality.
Dr. Glenn Johnson met with the Sebastians, April 2, 1982 in Lexington, MA.  He explained that he and his company preferred not to deal in the Secondary Sebastian Miniatures market.  Having previously reviewed a detailed mock-up of the first issue of the Sebastian Exchange Quarterly, Dr. Johnson gave his hearty approval together with many helpful suggestions.
The first issue of the Sebastian Exchange Quarterly was printed and introduced to the collectors who attend the Second Annual Festival in Boxboro, MA, June 12, 1982.  It was well received and a great number of collectors subscribed that day.   Subsequent issues were printed quarterly.
The Sebastian Exchange arranged with the Lance Corporation to issue a special limited edition series only through the Exchange and authorized dealers of Sebastian Miniatures.  The first such issue was the "Newspaper Boy" - SML-421 designed by Woody Baston in 1984.
